Reading 1 English top 100 words speaking - Reading 5 added
Top one hundred words most frequently used in reading, writing and speaking English. These words make up half of the words spoken in English. So, if you learn these then you are half way to learning the language. Enjoy them. If you want to email me and see if there is some way I can help with your pronunciation then please feel free. I am English and live in London and Dorset. If you would like to write then i will also help you with any English work. Write to Jack.barnett.wmin@gmail.com Best wishes. Jack Barnett It was my intention to try to read some English so that people got some idea of pronunciation. I was wondering what to read. I have decided that I will read the 'chunks' of writing that one is allowed to write beside ones videos. (Like this one). So in the next three weeks I will select some of the 'chunks' and read those - to give a bigger sample of spoken words. Jack - ps I am interested in which people are using this from which country. Do please email. me or just comment. Thanks. ps See also 'Reading English alphabet names & sounds, vowels & consonants' by Jack Barnett. Learn English 74 - Investor
Focus: Defining relative clauses Language: Relative pronouns MICHELLE: Hello. GREG: Hi, Michelle. MICHELLE: Oh, hi Greg. What's up? GREG: I just got an e-mail from our investor Mr. Fernandez. He wanted me to thank you for showing him around last week. Did he get to see everything that he wanted? MICHELLE: Yeah, he was really interested in checking out the factories that are making the new line of cars, so I took him out there and George, the plant manager, gave him a tour. GREG: Good. Did he visit the research and development offices? MICHELLE: Yes, we spent a full day there. Mr. Fernandez spoke with an R and D engineer who developed the new engine for us last year. GREG: What was the name of that engineer you spoke with? MICHELLE: Jim Landers, I think. GREG: Is Jim the one who has an Australian accent? He's kind of a tall guy . . . the one who has a beard, right? MICHELLE: Yes, that's the one. Do you know him? GREG: Yes, he's one of our best engineers. He helped set up the new plant. I'm glad Mr. Fernandez could meet him. MICHELLE: Yeah, me too. Anyway, after touring R and D and the factories, I brought Mr. Fernandez to the head offices where we met up with the CFO and a few of the board of directors. GREG: And everything went smoothly? MICHELLE: Yeah, he seemed to be very pleased with what he saw and very excited about our new projects. He said that he'll make the final decision next week.<_embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QqsCIl25gFE&hl=en&fs=1" autostart=0 width="425" height="344" allowScriptAccess="never" wmode="transparent" >

Learn English 73 - Sightseeing
Focus: Articles Language: Common words and phrases using definite, indefinite, and zero articles MS. ZHANG: Where do you want to go sightseeing today? MS. PHILLIPS: I want to visit this temple I've read about in the guide book. MS. ZHANG: OK, but I will buy the entrance ticket. MS. PHILLIPS: Oh, I didn't realize we have to pay to get in. MR. ZHANG: Yes, in China, there is a small fee to enter museums, parks and temples. MS. PHILLIPS: That's very different from back home . Have you ever heard of anyone paying to go to church? MR. ZHANG: You're right. In the West you don't make a direct payment at the entrance but the congregation is usually expected to make a contribution during collection . MS. PHILLIPS: Oh, you've been to England before? MR. ZHANG: Yes I went there last year. I had the time of my life , although it took a few days to adjust. The two cultures are so different. MS. PHILLIPS: Well, this is my first visit to China. And I've heard this temple is amazing. When was it built? MR. ZHANG: Pretty recently. About 150 years ago. MS. PHILLIPS: Well that seems very old to me. MR. ZHANG: Considering China's 5000 year history it's relatively new! MS. PHILLIPS: Do you go to that temple? MR. ZHANG: No, but my parents do. MS. PHILLIPS: To pray ? MR. ZHANG: No. Nowadays people just come to pray for good luck and money. MS. PHILLIPS: A similar trend is occurring in the West especially in regard to festivals. Many people still celebrate Christmas, although they might not be churchgoers . MR. ZHANG: Yes, it's interesting. We should find a taxi and go .<_embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xudJdhENIbI&hl=en&fs=1" autostart=0 width="425" height="344" allowScriptAccess="never" wmode="transparent" >
